Emoticons vs. smileys.

Postby mrpenney » Wed Jan 13, 2010 3:38 pm

I prefer emoticons--you know, sideways faces with punctuation--to those graphic smileys that BB replaces them with.

I went in and turned off smileys in my preferences, but I was wondering: having done that, have I only changed the way they appear to me? That's the way it sounded in the preferences.

In other words, when I type :-P, does everyone else see a big ol' yellow face with its tongue sticking out, even though I see a colon, a dash, and a capital P?

This is important, because I detest the big ol' yellow faces so much that I'll never ever type an emoticon if that's what other people see. (I use emoticons, only very rarely, as sarcasm markers when I can't be arsed to rewrite to make the sarcasm more obvious. The big yellow things just aren't effective for that.)

What til you try typing a series of numbers followed by a close paren, as in 1), 2) etc. and you get to eight.

ETA I don't see a smiley face, I just see colon, a dash, and a capital P.
Wow, that's terrific bass!
